Bug Out Bows
Id been looking for a short bow for in a BOB for a back up aswell as for conserving ammo, when running low. The shortest Ive found was a Liberty at 20.5 inches axle to axle, but have never found one to actually try before buying. I brought a Martin Altitude some years back with an axle length of 30 inches. Anything this short requires a release aid to hold the string, so your fingers dont pinch against the string. Compounds are usually around 32 inches in length and also need a bow press for changing cables , strings etc.
I hadnt owned a recurve for 10 years, the last being a Samick and started to consider a lightweight takedown for storing in a backpack. I came across the bottom link after reseaching a Martin Jaguar and thought a modified version with easier takedown limbs would also be the way to go. I wasnt looking for anything heavy for large game, just something in the 40# to 45# lbs range for small game. Will be checking out one in the next week or so. A recurve can be broken down into three pieces approx 23″ in length.
Hunting large game in a survival situation requires too many calories but using poaching techniques on small game with a bow as backup and small enough for packing is a definate possiblity.
